HavenIQ LLC ("HavenIQ," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use our website at haveniq.org, our mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

• Account information: Your name, .edu email address, school, graduation year, and a profile photo.
• Identity verification: Information needed to confirm you are an enrolled college student, including school records we verify through accredited third-party services.
• Compatibility quiz responses: Your answers to our 55-question compatibility assessment, including personality, lifestyle, and preference data.
• Communications: Messages you send to other users through the Service and any communications you send to our support team.
• Payment information: If you subscribe to paid features, payment information is collected and processed by a third-party payment processor (Stripe). We do not store full card numbers on our servers.

Information Collected Automatically

• Device and usage data: Device type, operating system, IP address, browser type, and usage events (pages viewed, features used).
• Cookies and similar technologies: For authentication, session management, and analytics. You can disable cookies in your browser.
• Location (optional): Approximate location to show relevant housing listings. Never collected without your explicit permission.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including compatibility matching.
• Verify your enrollment status as a college student.
• Communicate with you about your account, matches, and Service updates.
• Improve our matching algorithms and user experience.
• Prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
• Comply with legal obligations.

3. Free Text Analysis

Certain quiz questions request free-text answers. To generate compatibility scores, these answers may be processed by an AI provider (Anthropic) under a zero-data-retention agreement. Your free-text responses are not used to train any AI model.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share limited information only in these scenarios:

• With other users: Your first name, last initial, school, graduation year, profile photo, and compatibility score are visible to matched users. You control visibility at any time.
• With service providers: Vendors who process data on our behalf (hosting, payments, identity verification, email delivery, AI processing). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information.
• For legal reasons: When required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
• Business transfers: If HavenIQ is acquired or merged, your information may transfer to the acquiring entity, subject to this Privacy Policy.

5. Your Privacy Rights

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect, use, and share about you.
• Request deletion of your personal information.
• Correct inaccurate personal information.
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (note: HavenIQ does not sell personal information).
• Non-discrimination for exercising your rights.

All Users

• You can access and update your profile at any time.
• You can delete your account at any time through Settings. On deletion, we remove your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
• You can opt out of promotional emails using the unsubscribe link in any such message.

6. FERPA Compliance

HavenIQ is FERPA-aware. We do not access, store, or share student academic records, grades, financial aid details, or any other information protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures including encryption at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS). Profile photos are stored in private cloud storage with access controls. No security system is perfect, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

8. Children Under 13

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

9. International Users

HavenIQ is operated from the United States. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States, which may have data protection laws different from those in your country.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
